Snowflake charges for data egress when data leaves an account for a different region on the same cloud or for a different cloud. Data transfer within the same region is free under Snowflake's data-transfer rules.
Snowflake does not charge a Snowflake data-transfer fee for ingress into an account. The cloud storage provider can still charge an egress fee when data moves from its network and region into Snowflake.
Egress pricing depends on the account's cloud provider, source region, and destination. The applicable rate is defined in the Snowflake pricing guide and customer agreement.
Query results retrieved by a client do not automatically create a Snowflake egress charge in every cross-region or cross-cloud case. The transfer path and destination determine whether a fee applies. Cloud-provider network charges can also apply outside Snowflake's invoice.
Account usage transfer views report bytes transferred by direction and service. Compare transfer volume with the destination region and workload that generated it. Replication, data sharing, external stages, and exports can produce different transfer records.
Keeping related accounts and stages in the same region can reduce cross-region transfer. The cost trade-off must include data residency, latency, and recovery requirements. Snowflake documents data transfer costs.
